A Parisian born native of Cameroon, Bell currently resides in Philadelphia and has the whole world ahead of her with songs like lead single "Shut Your Mouth". So I finally decided I am famous enough for Twitter, or I exhausted the spamming capabilities of Facebook... take your pick.

This Month At Liberty Bar

In addition to my Thirsty Thursday residency, I'll be DJing special Irish/rock/folk sets all day at Liberty Bar every Saturday leading up to and including Saint Patrick's Day. They'll be featuring green beer, Irish coffees, Tullamore Dew giveaways, corned beef and cabbage, and various other Irish paraphernalia. The 3rd I'll be opening up for DJ Harv and Plan C's new residency (you may remember them from NYE), and the 10th will be part of the Erin's Express pub crawl known as the Running of the Mick's. Check out the Facebook fan page for more details!

New Website/Fan Page

In tandem with the launch of my new weekly at Liberty Bar, I've finally officially launched the Tumblr page my sister and I have been working on for a few months. Flying Circus Entertainment is the name of my djing/promotion company, and all my future events will be under that moniker. Check it out at flyingcircusentertainment.tumblr.com and become a fan on Facebook [here].

Joseph Milligan's Sins

Joseph Milligan, lead guitarist of Anberlin, recently started a side project called Sins. Judging by the first two tracks released, this will consist of driving punk instrumentals with vocals leaning more toward the stadium-sized pop ambitions of his regular gig. Personally I enjoy the distorted vocals at the beginning of "Keep Quiet", as it is here he most steps into his own musical territory. [stream on Facebook] (via IndieVisionMusic)

Vote for The New Division

The New Division has an opportunity to play live on Jimmy Kimmel if they hit 5,000 'likes' on Facebook by the end of the month. [Click here to like their page] and then download the free mp3 of their latest single "Walk in the Dark" at their Bandcamp page.

Getting Some Artist Love

Every once in a while an artist is impressed enough by what I've said about them here to link to it or quote it in one of their media outlets. While many might post a link on Facebook or Twitter, a few have paid me the respect of doing so in a more permanent way:

  • For those interested, you should come see Kyle Rictor at B-sides on Wednesday.
  • Will Gray has a great documentary out about the music business called *Broke. It features interviews with everyone from John Legend to vice presidents of labels like Sony and Columbia.

Catching Up With Christina Grimmie

You may remember Christina Grimmie as the opening act for my birthday show to benefit To Write Love On Her Arms. That was the last independent show allowed by her manager, otherwise known as Selena Gomez' stepdad.

Since then she has been keeping herself busy getting even more YouTube famous, singing backing vocals for Gomez, and going into virtual hiding to avoid manic fans. A couple kids even tried to friend me on Facebook to get in contact with her. As an indication of her popularity, Billboard just reported that she is currently beating both Justin Bieber and Rihanna in a YouTube popularity contest, despite the former's self-parodying Super Bowl Best Buy ad. Vote for her here to ensure that I get to say "Remember when?" and "I told you so" when she becomes the new Miley Cyrus, but writes her own music. If you don't know who any of these people are, ask your preteen relatives.

The New Division

My girlfriend's best friend's boyfriend (wow that's a mouthful) is in an excellent band out in California called The New Division. I was able to hang out with them a little bit while I was out there visiting her, and they are putting out some genuinely quality stuff, heavily influenced by New Order and Joy Division. They are doing so well, in fact, that high and mighty Pitchfork has graced their latest single, "Starfield", with their stamp of approval - giving you a free download in the process, just a few days after my own Fox and the Hound Show did so with some East Coast airplay.

Become a fan on Facebook for more info and definitely see them live if you're out West, I'm told it's quite the experience.
