Farewell Flight Signs With Mono vs. Stereo

After many years of hard work as an independent outfit, Harrisburg's Farewell Flight have signed with the re-opened Mono vs. Stereo, a joint effort between Gotee Records and Matt Thiessen and Matt Hoopes of Relient K. After fans protested a proposed name change to 'Indian Summer', the label relented, and the confessional indie-pop stalwarts will release a split EP with newfound labelmates Deas Vail June 7. Hopefully this means the songs from 2008's excellent Sound. Color. Motion. will get the promotion they always deserved.

Buzz Band: Tinted Windows

If this band doesn't blow up, the world is a lot less predictable than it used to be. Tinted Windows, featuring frontman Taylor Hanson (yes, Hanson), guitarist James Iha (of Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle), bassist Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne and Ivy), and drummer Ben Carlos (of Cheap Trick-yeah, he's 57), has just released an album of ridiculously catchy powerpop and will be playing tonight on Jimmy Fallon (Conan's replacement, whose house band is The Roots). Buzz Band: Max Tundra

The gloriously nerdy Max Tundra makes bizarre electronic music that could be termed (IMHO) post-pop or something like that... It's glitchy, composed (this album at least) on a Commodore Amiga 500, which was considered 'low-end' when it was built in 1987, and prefixmag describes it as "the soundtrack to an '80s brat-pack movie gone horribly wrong". Here's one of his jams, an ode to deceptive internet relationships:

Despite the video, all this weird is indeed the brainchild and output of one man, Londoner Ben Jacobs. Catch him on tour with Junior Boys when they come through this area in early May.

Lancaster metalcore band August Burns Red peaked at #81 on the Billboard 200 with their 2007 album Messengers, is about to release a b-sides compilation, and has previously covered the Christmas classic "Carol of the Bells".
